Some of those are for a USB card which obviously mine isn't. I ask here because I see discussion of an RTL8812AU package and its variants.
In light of the fact that this chip isn't properly supported in Linux anyway (from what I can read) do I just live with things as they are and accept they won't improve (barring my ISP actually managing to make the network run properly!!!)? My question is simply this: is there anything I could change? I note that it's asking for the 8812 firmware but falling back to 8821. rtlwifi: Loading alternative firmware rtlwifi/rtl8821aefw.bin rtl8821ae 0000:06:00.0: Direct firmware load for rtlwifi/rtl8812aefw.bin failed with error -2 rtl8821ae 0000:06:00.0: Direct firmware load for rtlwifi/rtl8812aefw_wowlan.bin failed with error -2 rtl8821ae: Using firmware rtlwifi/rtl8812aefw_wowlan.bin rtl8821ae: Using firmware rtlwifi/rtl8812aefw.bin So I did a bit of digging around, and dmesg | grep firmware gives me: Spectre V2 : Enabling Restricted Speculation for firmware calls While it's improved but not entirely stopped the random disconnects, page loading can sometimes slow to a crawl or stop entirely. I've just purchased and installed a D-Link DWA-582 network card. Having encountered some HUGELY frustrating issues of late with my wifi also constantly disconnecting, I decided to replace the internal PCIe card.
